MONROVIA, Liberia (Sept. 15, 2025) — The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has set up a three-member committee to investigate an incident involving journalist Franklin Doloquee and Information Minister Jerolinmek M. Piah.

The committee, chaired by veteran journalist Torwon Solunteh-Brown, also includes lawyer Bruce Boweh and civil society advocate Adama Kiatamba Dempster. The panel is expected to present its findings and recommendations to the PUL leadership by Sept. 19.

According to reports, the incident occurred Sept. 13 in Sanniquellie, Nimba County, when Piah allegedly seized Doloquee’s phone during an interview, deleted photos and video recordings, and has not returned the device. Doloquee later filed a formal complaint with the PUL.

In a statement Monday, the PUL urged professionalism and restraint as the inquiry proceeds, stressing that the integrity of journalism and the free flow of public information must be respected.
