The Asset Recovery and Property Retrieval Taskforce (AREPT) has observed troubling reports suggesting that some individuals under active investigation may be attempting to flee the country to avoid legal accountability.
AREPT strongly warns that fleeing the country will not protect anyone from investigation or prosecution. Such actions only deepen public suspicion and reinforce Liberiaโs determination to recover stolen assets and uphold the rule of law.
With the full support of international agencies and diplomatic allies, every legal avenue will be used to locate and return such individuals to face the law. As part of AREPTโs mandate, the Taskforce will activate formal diplomatic channels through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; initiate extradition requests under applicable regional and international treaties; and engage in collaboration with INTERPOL, ECOWAS, and African Union member states, as well as global asset recovery networks.
AREPT reminds all persons of interest that cooperation with ongoing investigations is a legal duty, not an option. Attempts to obstruct justice through flight will be met with lawful, coordinated, and resolute action.
The Taskforce remains committed to a transparent, non-political process rooted in due process and national accountability. No one is above the law, and no attempt to flee will ultimately succeed.
